In this guide we will go over five of the best weapons you can find during the early hours of Dark Souls 3. These cover Dexterity, Strength, and Intelligence-based weapons, but keep in mind that.

Dark Souls IIIhas been out for little more than a week now, and all of its little secrets and discoveries are flooding the Internet. From disappearing walls to Mimic Chests, every secret will eventually be discovered with not one stone left unturned.

Doubtlessly, farming locations will be part of this discovery. Farming souls may be frowned upon in some gaming circles, but let’s be honest -- you absolutely need to farm sometimes in order to make it past certain areas and bosses.

The first true farming location in Dark Souls III can be found near the Farron Keep area. Look for the bonfire near Farron Keep Perimeter. It can be quite a pain getting there, so allow me to walk you through the dreaded poison swamp that surrounds it.

Poison Swamp/Farron Keep

This area can be quite nasty, and the swamp is poisonous, so be sure to have some purple moss clump consumables at the ready. The objective in the swamp is to put out three flames that are located in these chimneys. Once that has been done, these large stone doors will open up and this path will lead you to the Abyss Watchers boss area if you keep following along. There will be some enemies ahead that aren’t too dangerous, so take care of them and come to the long narrow path with more enemies ahead. If you look to your right, there should be a stone structure with a passage leading to a bonfire. Welcome to the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire. It is here where you will farm for Souls.

Farron Keep Perimeter/How to farm for Souls

Go ahead and light the bonfire, refilling your flasks and what not. Once you have sorted yourself out, go the opposite way you came in and there will be three of the Ghru enemies. Killing all three of them will net you a little over 1,000 Souls. Moving past these three enemies will lead you to a door that opens up a shortcut to the Road of Sacrifices. Head back to the Farron Keep perimeter bonfire and rest. This will respawn the previous three Grhu enemies, allowing you to kill them over and over again. That is how you farm souls in this area of the game.

Anti-climactic

I know, not the most exciting stuff, but it is absolutely necessary and this may be the safest place to farm in the entire game. Who knows, maybe someone will stumble upon a better area to farm but this is a pretty early point in the game where farming can be vital.

Dark Souls III is out now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Dark Souls 3 Best Place To Farm Chunks

So I was farming for Gems to infuse my weapons, and thought I should share what I found with all of you. This is just from my personal experience, so if you've found a better spot, PLEASE let me know. I would happily replace my info with yours if it turns out to be better.

Souls

This is all from personal experience, not guessing. These are all locations and enemies that I had gems drop from myself, not that someone told me 'maybe dropped'. Basically, I found locations to farm gems that are extremely close to Bonfires and are fast to reach and return to the Bonfire from. Two of these locations are better if you use a Homeward Bone/Homeward (Miracle)/Coiled Sword Fragment, due to how you reach them, but I'll mention specifically which ones below.

Without further verbiage, here's the details:

  • Heavy Gem: (Farron Keep Perimeter Bonfire) Run towards the Watchers of the Abyss room, but stay on the right wall (opposite where the Darkwraiths spawn). There will be a 'Caster Ghru' enemy sitting next to a tree that has a decent chance to drop this gem (As well as Wolf's Blood Swordgrass).

  • Sharp Gem: (Catacombs of Carthus Bonfire) Run forward from the Bonfire, and go right (wait for the ball to pass) down the tunnel here. At the end are two red-eyed 'Carthus Swordsman' enemies with a good chance to drop this gem (As well as Vertebra Shackles). Would recommend Homeward Bone/Homeward (Miracle)/Coiled Sword Fragment back to Bonfire.

  • Refined Gem: (Dragon Barracks Bonfire) Run up the stairs and stay to the left on this side of the bridge. There is a red-eyed 'Elite Lothric Knight' sitting with his back to you opposite from the Bridge who has a good chance to drop this gem (As well as Sunlight Medals and Titanite Chunks). Credit to brvtus for the suggestion.

  • Raw Gem: (High Wall of Lothric Bonfire) Head down the left staircase from the Bonfire. There are a variety of 'Hollow' enemies down here, and all of them have a good chance to drop this gem. Even the passive praying Hollows.

  • Fire Gem: (Undead Settlement Bonfire) Head forward toward the open building and two 'Worker' enemies will come out to greet you (One Machete, One Pitchfork). Both have a decent chance to drop this gem.

  • Chaos Gem: (Old King's Antechamber Bonfire) Immediately outside the door closest to the Bonfire is a 'Fire Demon' enemy (The ones that have giant machetes and summon fire orbs) with a deccent chance to drop this gem. Might be the fastest farming on this list. Credit to Prinsn and Phosphoros_of_Chaos for the suggestions.

  • Simple Gem: (Irithyll Dungeon Bonfire) Head straight from the Bonfire through the room with cells on both walls. As you reach the end of the room, a 'Jailer' enemy will round the corner. It has a decent chance to drop this gem.

  • Crystal Gem: (Crystal Sage Bonfire) Run back towards the Road of Sacrifices, and a 'Hollow Sorcerer' will be on the path with his back to you. He has a chance to drop this gem (It is fairly rare even from him). There is another of this enemy further along the path, but it is in a room with several other enemies. The enemies in this room with Spears can also drop the gem. Credit to Molocci for that information.

  • Blessed Gem: (Lothric Castle Bonfire) Run towards and kill the 'Lothric Knight' enemy leaving the room (It has a decent chance to drop Sunlight Medals). Immediately on the left in the next room will be a 'Lothric Priest' enemy (Hollow in Black Robes that heals itself and Lothric Knights). It has a decent chance to drop this gem.

  • Lightning Gem: (Archdragon Peak Bonfire) Head towards the beginning of the stage, and you will encounter Four 'Man Serpent' enemies. They all have a decent chance to drop this gem (As well as Large Titanite Shards and Titanite Chunks).

  • Deep Gem: (Aldrich, Devourer of Gods Bonfire) Run out of this room and you will immediately find Three 'Elite Deacons of the Deep' enemies (One normal, one tall, and one fat). All three have a decent chance to drop this gem (As well as Human Dregs). There are more to the right and up the stairs from these three, but it is faster and easier to kill these three and return to the Bonfire).

  • Dark Gem: (Dragon Barracks Bonfire) Run up the stairs here and fall down on either side of the bridge to find a Hollow enemy at either end of the path who will turn into a 'Pus of Man' enemy. These enemies have a decent chance to drop this gem. Very weak to Fire attacks as well. Would recommend Homeward Bone/Homeward (Miracle)/Coiled Sword Fragment back to Bonfire.

  • Poison Gem: (Farron Keep Perimeter Bonfire) Head opposite the doorway leading to the Watchers of the Abyss room, and down the path leading to a shortcut to the Road of Sacrifices. There are three 'Ghru' enemies here (One Spear, two sword) that are seated with their backs to you. All three have a decent chance to drop this gem (As well as Wolf's Blood Swordgrass).

  • Bleed Gem: (Distant Manor Bonfire) Run down the stairs from this Bonfire, and you will encounter two 'Irithyll Slave' enemies (The withered looking women). They both have a decent chance to drop this gem. Be mindful of the 'Pontiff Knight' enemy on the left. There are more Irithyll Slaves further in the room, as well as a 'Fire Witch' enemy, but it might be faster to farm the first two and return to the Bonfire.

  • Hollow Gem: (Halfway Fortress Bonfire)First things first: Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this one. Hollow gems have one of the lowest drop rates of any item in the game (Even worse than most Covenant items!). Head up the stairs from the Bonfire and you will encounter some 'Corvian' enemies. There is one on a hill to the left with a staff (Known as a 'Corvian Storyteller'). He has a very, very low chance to drop this gem. I would HIGHLY recommend killing the Corvian with a scythe that is usually patrolling near him, as it can make running back to the Bonfire a pain if left unchecked).

  • Shriving Stone: (Halfway Fortress Bonfire) Similarly to the Hollow Gem: Head up the stairs from the Bonfire and you will encounter some 'Corvian' enemies. All of these enemies (except for the 'Corvian Storyteller' on the hill) have a decent chance to drop this gem.

Don't forget to equip your Symbol of Avarice, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, and Crystal Sage Rapier (If you have them), as well as use a Rusted Coin to boost your chances of the gems dropping!
