After that, go to the crafting trainer to choose your tradeskills. You can only choose two, but you can switch by going back to a crafting trainer. You also keep your experience in each skill. After switching, you have to wait three days to switch again as a novice. WildStar’s story is a long and tangled one. We began watching the game on Massively-that-was as far back as 2011, naming it our most anticipated MMORPG in both 2011 and 2012 thanks to its colorful, Firefly-esque themes and multi-faceted Bartle-style design.
In an era of free-to-play games, WildStar's monthly fee seems like a way to set yourself up for failure. Cue C.R.E.D.D.. With this system, players can play for free, or make a little money on the side to sustain themselves in game.
This guide is here to teach you how to do both. By following these steps, you should be able to make enough money to get involved in the C.R.E.D.D. market, and use the profits to pay off your monthly fee, and hopefully continue to make a profit from the in-game economy.
WildStar is a fairly straightforward game to make money in if you are disciplined and willing to put in a little effort. The game was designed with money earning and spending paths, so as long as you stick to the content designed to make you money, and stay away from the stuff designed to make you spend that money, you should be in good shape.
When leveling up and attempting to make a profit, you'll need to make an important decision fairly on, at level 10: which Tradeskills do you want to take? There are two styles to choose: double gathering, or gathering / crafting. Although technically you can choose to forego tradeskills, they are a substantial aspect of generating income in WildStar, and skipping over them is not suggested.
Double gathering professions means you should always be gathering resources and selling them on the Commodity Exchange, unless you are planning on hoarding them until level 50 to craft, which is also an economically viable route. Gathering / crafting players should spend time early on to see if any of the things they're crafting can be sold on the Auction House for a profit. If they cannot, salvage them and sell the excess resources.
While double gathering professions can make you a good chunk of change right out the door, there is a greater long term profit to be made for those willing to put in the extra effort to craft well-made items. All players regardless of their tradeskill choices should also always pick up plants whenever possible, as they can be sold on the Commodity Exchange or to a vendor, depending on the plant's price.
Some other tips to help save money while leveling:
Making money at 50 is a little bit more reliable than making money at the lower levels. Now that you've (hopefully) maxed out your tradeskills, you can have a consistent source of income, in addition to the money made for completing missions.
The first source of money at level 50 is questing. Daily quests in zones such as Crimson Badlands and Northern Wastes award upwards of 10-20g per day, and helps you work towards your weekly Elder Gem limit.
Once you've reached your 140 Gems for the week, all experience begins converting to gold, with an equivalence of 75,000XP = 1.5g. Though this looks like a lot, it comes very quickly, and once you're Elder Gem capped, completing a Veteran Zone's dailies can award approximately 50g.
There is also a substantial profit to be made from tradeskills at level 50. If you still have a gathering profession, look to join a 50/50 circle for your related profession. This will allow other crafters to come to your plot and extract resources you've left there overnight, splitting the results 50/50 between the two of you. If you do this and make your house public, you will usually wake up with a stack of resources in your mailbox ripe for selling.
If you have crafting tradeskills, things get a little bit more complicated. First, be sure to reach the Elder Crafting level for your tradeskill. Once you do, you will need to do some research into your server's economy to figure out which items can be sold quickly and reliably, while still maintaining a worthwhile margin. Ideal items are things that level 50 players will need that are inexpensive to make, and have few competitors. Unfortunately, much of the nuance of this profit track are reliant on specific tradeskills and the server-specific market.
By using these means or any other, start to amass as much money as you can. Follow many of the same rules from leveling - don't spend excessively, don't buy items off the Auction House, and don't invest in your house (yet!). Keep adding to your wealth until you are ready to start getting involved in the C.R.E.D.D. market.
There is no definitive best time to get involved in the C.R.E.D.D. market. Before getting involved, you should spend several days watching the prices as they fluctuate, until you have a comfortable measure of where the market is going. Several indicators that you are probably prepared for purchasing your first C.R.E.D.D. are:
The 1.5p leftover after your C.R.E.D.D. purchase is meant to be your buffer - that should be what you see as 0g. Use that money only if necessary.
Your first C.R.E.D.D. is not meant for consumption. That C.R.E.D.D. is an asset that you will use to continue making wealth. Continue to track the C.R.E.D.D. market over time. When you see a notable change in price (50g+) up, sell the C.R.E.D.D., and save the profit. When the price falls back down, reinvest that money back into a C.R.E.D.D., and repeat.
Although the adage 'Buy low, sell high' oversimplifies things, C.R.E.D.D. as a market will be driven by a fairly trackable cycle that will help simplify the market for those who invest. Because WildStar's monthly cycle will end for most players at the end of each month, the price for C.R.E.D.D. will (probably) go up dramatically near the end of the month, and will (probably) drop back down several days later. This makes for a helpful long-term buy / sell cycle, if you're willing to wait for peak prices.
Once you've sold your first C.R.E.D.D., you're not quite in the clear yet. If you want to be able to continue working the C.R.E.D.D. market, your goal should be to continuously flip C.R.E.D.D. until your profits are equal or greater than the cost of a C.R.E.D.D. itself. Depending on how skilled you are at playing the market, and how many C.R.E.D.D. you can afford to keep in circulation, this may take anywhere between 2-4 C.R.E.D.D. to do effectively. Your goal should be to avoid an actual monetary setback when you purchase your C.R.E.D.D. for your game time.
Although you can opt to farm for the money to purchase your C.R.E.D.D. each month, depending on which server you play on, you may be spending many hours farming to earn enough platinum to keep playing, only to sustain yourself to do more farming to continue playing. By investing and learning to utilize the C.R.E.D.D. market, you can not only increase your overall wealth, but save yourself a large amount of time.
Once you have a sustained income system and your subscription is covered, you can begin to make more frivolous purchases, and can begin to invest in the money sinks, such as housing, raiding, or donating it to the kind and awesome gentleman who taught you how to make the money in the first place (Portl - Widow Exiles).
Something to keep in mind is that the C.R.E.D.D. market, and the WildStar server economies as a whole are going through a very significant growth period right now. As more and more players hit level 50 each day the market is fluctuating to accommodate them, and prices on many goods are rising rapidly. For those who are less risk-averse, now may be a good time to invest in all kinds of market goods, though as the prices begin to standardize over the next few months, it is hard to predict what will remain profitable and what will become readily available.
There are no guarantees with a market as new as the C.R.E.D.D.,and prices are driven largely by server-specific factors, meaning C.R.E.D.D. may go for 1.5p on one server, while it goes for 10p+ on another. You will need to carefully watch the market, and a willingness to put in the effort to do things like track prices over time will take you far.
Like with most aspects of the game, WildStar rewards dedication and long-term productivity. If you put in the time and effort, it will definitely be possible to sustain your subscription and maybe even make a profit. Or you could, ya know, just pay the $15.
